What Can You Do?

What can you do?

There are many ways in which you can help to change the way in which the world engages with nonverbal communicators and limited communicators.  Here a few suggestions:

  • Increase awareness that “we can all communicate” by referring to those who have verbal challenges as “Nonverbal Communicators” and “Limited Communicators.”
  • Encourage nonverbal communicators and limited communicators to wear the appropriate CHAT Collective t-shirts to identify himself/herself and to further promote awareness.
  • Take a photo or video of this individual wearing the T-shirt, then post it on Facebook or on Twitter (@CHATCollective) or email it to us to post on the CHAT Collective Facebook page (info@chatcollective.com).
  • Follow us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/CHATCollective) and Twitter (@CHATCollective) – then LIKE, share and Retweet our posts.
  • Hand out CHAT Collective identification cards and encourage people to visit our website.
  • Personalize a customized Communications Profile card for a nonverbal or limited communicator, download it and pass copies out to doctors, family, friends, teachers and therapists.
  • Encourage  medical care providers, educators and others to look at and speak directly to nonverbal and limited communicators and  to learn how to converse with them using Yes/No questions.
  • Contact us about events and other opportunities to advocate for nonverbal and limited communicators and to teach communication techniques.
  • Include information about The CHAT Collective, our tools and techniques in your organization’s newsletters.
  • Contribute other ideas for improving the lives of nonverbal and limited communicators  in our CHAT Collective forums.
